Your State Parks Day: Volunteer at service projects in Georgia’s State Parks and State Historic Sites and you will get free admission (paid by the Friends of Georgia State Parks organization) on September 26. Some parks are planting butterfly gardens to help increase pollinator habitat (and specifically Monarch Butterflies). See a list of events at www.GaStateParks.org/events . Projects near Atlanta include:
- Fort Yargo State Park, Winder — plant flower beds and maintain bike trails
- Panola Mountain State Park, Stockbridge – lake shore cleanup, and wildflower and native grass plantings
- Sweetwater Creek State Park, Lithia Springs – lake and trail cleanups
- Red Top Mountain State Park, Cartersville – butterfly garden, weeding, and outdoor classroom construction
The Columbia Museum of Art: Get free admission through October 3 and view second-floor collection galleries, including the newly reinstalled Botticelli fresco, The Nativity. CMA free days are offered as a thank you to the City of Columbia and Richland County for their continued support of the museum’s programs. Free admission is valid through Oct. 3, Tuesday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Columbia Museum of Art, 1515 Main Street, Columbia.
